Dig In, Rooted

Confidence

Confidence. What is confidence? According to Cambridge Dictionary, confidence is, “The quality of being certain of your abilities or of having trust in people, plans, or the future.” That whole sentence is saying that confidence is basically trusting in someone or something.

Why I’m talking about this is because girls around my age question themselves about their lifestyle, how they look, etc. Their self esteem can start to crumble, they feel like an oddball, and their self-confidence is not the same as they were at five years old. If you are one of those girls, like me, you will feel confused and alone. But one day when I was working, I came across this verse and it really comforted me and gave me an answer to my self-esteem social mess and I think it will help you too.

Be not afraid of sudden fear… For the Lord shall be thy confidence. Proverbs 3:25-26 KJV

This verse has told me to trust only in God and not to be swayed by others’ opinions. I really wish I found it sooner because, when this all started, I would talk to people that I thought were my “friends”, and I studied their faces like studying an exam and most of the time they had this face that said “I am really bored by what you’re saying but I don’t want to hurt your feelings.” That face haunted me for the rest of the week wondering if they wanted to be my friend or not. Because of that, I felt like a burden to people outside my family.

In the midst of all this, I forgot God could help me with these things, I forgot that He will help me in finding the right friends, I forgot God can help me with my confidence. Not only that, but I didn’t know that God will be my confidence.

Psalm 127:1 (KJV) says, ”Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.”

Without God, there is nothing we can do. That is why asking God to help be your confidence (or any other struggles in life) is very important if you want to get over your struggle.

I am still fighting this weakness, but this time with God with me to help me overcome it. You can too.
